Error installing Linux (any distro) on Athlon X2 system
 
I am unable to install any distro of Linux with a 2.6 kernel on my Athlon X2 system. It keeps telling me the following error.
Kernel panic - not synching: IO-APIC + timer doesn't work! Boot with apic=debug and send a report. Then try booting with the 'noapic' option.
This error is received while loading the installation process right after I press enter to choose the default installer setup after initial boot from CD.

I can assure you the problem is not with your CPU ;) Try using the noapic option when booting from the installer CD and see if it helps. Different CDs are different but most should show (however briefly) a short instruction on how to add kernel parameters.

I'm also getting the same error. Does anyone know how to correct it? How do I change kernel parameters in Ubuntu 6.06 ?
