Question edgeless cursor

how do i enable an edgeless cursor in mint18?
[wrap around mouse?]
according to interweb searches it does not seem possible...
the closest i could get was a post from 8 years ago on how to disable this feature.
is there another distro i should look at for this function?

By "edgeless currsor," do you mean that the mouse moves seamlessly from one workspace or desktop to the next when you move to a screen edge?

If that what you are referring to, that will depend on whether your desktop environment/window manager supports that feature.

just a cursor that moves from the left edge to the right edge, or top to bottom, kind of like the old asteroids game

i was hoping i could just tweak my mouse behavior settings, edit some file to add this function.

nothing fancy like a portal [mouse hole] opens up as the cursor gets near the edge and another mouse hole [portal] opens up on the opposite edge...but that would be cool...

sounds like a different desktop environment might be all i need but that option never came up in my searches.
can you suggest a d.e. that has seamless mouse positioning?

I've never used the feature myself, but there are a couple of options here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/44548...rap-the-screen

There are also a few other results returned with the web search linux wrap-around mouse cursor

I'm interested to hear how you get on.

thanks for the link hydrurga, i had already decided that brightside was not for me but i tried it anyways...it only seems to swap workspaces
tried to fiddle with taralli but could not get past first line: $ ./configure
comes back with: bash: ./configure: No such file or directory
I have an empty /etc/opt directory and the interweb suggests i use this directory to add new features but not sure if this will break an install if it says to use ./configure
[to answer my own question re ./configure, i will go ahead and make the directory and see if i can carry on with taralli install for now]

Where did you download Taralli from (so I can try to install it too)?

Normally you will have to be in the directory where you unpacked the Taralli run/installer files (more specifically, the folder that contains the Taralli-supplied program called configure) before you enter ./configure

hydrurga...taralli is in the link you supplied...
both taralli and brightside have not had any comments for years so that is why i was avoiding them...
taralli's easy install info...well not so easy
so thought i would just apt-get install taralli
getting complaints right away about other programs using resources...suspect it is brightside so had to un install brightside and reboot
working better but now cannot find taralli package...

i suspect i am missing a piece of the puzzle...
'easy' install info here... https://github.com/joshumax/taralli

success...i think...mouse now teleports to opposite edge...
top bottom or left right or vice versey...
quick recap of what i did

download the zip file from github
moved download to a directory i made called...myinstalls
extracted zip file
change directory to the extracted one
from there i was able to follow 'easy' instructions...

a few more complaints, had to switch back to another webpage to get this command:

sudo apt-get install libx11-dev libxext-dev libxi-dev

run compilation steps again and ...
at prompt run the program $ taralli

will mark as solved with these comments:

taralli:
only works while program is running in the terminal
cannot use terminal while program is running
...open another terminal window to work around this.
turn off taralli - simply close the terminal it is running in or...
exit taralli... can never remember how to do that...
end...exit...stop...quit...close...esc.key ...arrrgh...
ctrl/c...

willing to try a desktop environment that has this function but did not come across anything like that during this adventure...

Have you tried running Taralli as a background process? (e.g. taralli &).

If that works, you should be able to add that command to your startup procedure and thus have Taralli running all the time.

^ it really seems that taralli is the only option here.

i don't care much for the feature, but i don't understand why it isn't easier to achieve it...

maybe it has to do with workspaces.
once a windows convert realizes how useful workspaces are, usage habits are bound to change.

enjoy linux and remember: LNW!

running taralli in the background works like a charm...
thank you again hydrurga
having never run anything in the background [knowingly] i was a little leery about the learning process...
the hardest part was committing myself to another long search and decipher mission...
it seems that to have a command run in the background just add the ampersand [&] after the command you are running...
taralli &
now the mouse cursor is edgeless [wraps around from the opposite edge]
but do not be lazy like me when you close the terminal. if i close it by clicking on the close window button i loose the wrap.around
if i exit the terminal by typing 'exit', the wraparound is persistent.

now...onto my next quest...

you have to find out about "autostart" or "Startup Applications" on your Desktop environment.
enter taralli there, and it will start automatically every time you log in and you cannot accidentally close it.

i have marked this post as helpful in a telling.me.where.to.go kind of way...
first search hit suggested one solution
alt/f2
enter the command to run [without the ampersand&]
and hit /run button
so far edgeless cursor is persistent until shutdown and i have not yet found a way to break it

and it looks like i might be able to add it to my 'startup applications' just as easily when i get tired of f.alt/2ing it...
menu/preferences/start applications
who knew it could be that simple

i may be f.alt/2.er.ing alot from now on thanks again
