Dual head - Individual desktops option

I am new to linux and currently getting my nose wet in linux red hat exterprise edition 5 on the desktop.
I am trying to set up a dual monitor for an extended workspace.
I had a lot of issues trying make it spanning desktops, since the two monitors i have are of different resolutions.
I decided to go with the individual desktops option. But I have trouble switching from one space to another. I understand it behaves like two individual workstations with this config. But I am unable to move from one desktop space to another.

Kindly advice.

So you have it setup still with two individual screens, but can't move the mouse from one to the other? Can you show us your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file?
