(dual boot) Install Ubuntu 19.04 and now cannot load Windows 10

Good day,

I installed Ubuntu 19.04 on a computer that already had Windows 10, but I do not see the option to select Windows 10 in the boot options.

I installed boot-repair and tried it a few times with different options but it didn't work.

The drives are UEFI

I'll admit that I've been away from the Linux scene for a bit and havent touched Grub in a long time so I'm probably missing some steps.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I guess it depends on how valuable Windows is to you before I suggest any way to continue.

You should start by looking at the partitions and see how they are configured just to make sure you know what is what maybe. If Windows is valuable then you may wish to backup a few items. Otherwise I'd either fix windows to boot to it's loader or fix grub to boot to windows.

We need that partition information I'd think.

Boot repair has a "Create BootInfo Summary" option which gives a link you can post on forums such as these for help. Why not do that?

Drives? Multiple drives on the machine? Ubuntu and windows installed on the same drive? or separate drives? Did you read the Ubuntu documentation (link below) before beginning? What do you see when you boot, is it the Grub menu? Do you have an option in the BIOS to boot from an EFI file? If you do, do you see a windows entry?

I was going to suggest the same, on my laptop I have to hit the F12 boot menu key to get the efi entries for either system I want to boot, there is no windows entry in grub. On my desktop computer which uses MBR Windows 10 shows up in the grub menu.

There should be, if you want it by running grub-mkconfig command. That is if both systems on the computer are installed UEFI.

Nor much more to say about the original question until some information is posted.

Finally, success, I rebooted my computer, and when I pressed the F8 key during the POST I got a list of partitions to try and boot from. I kept trying different ones until I found one that displayed the menu list properly, and so I figured my boot order was wrong in the BIOS, so I adjusted it and voila!!! Now everything works.. Windows 10, Ubuntu 16.04 and 19.04.

19.04 seems to crash a lot though, oh well, Ill keep it though and hopefully they will have some updates.

Bugs and/or problems of some sort are major reasons many users do not install new releases, particularly short term releases like 19.04. If your current system has some problems, the new release has new software you want/need or you just like spending time experimenting, there aren't many other good reasons for doing this. Good luck with it.
