Smile double click to open programs

Using Lubuntu 16.04 desktop i386 on my laptop. This may be a silly question but I am unable to open icon on the desktop by the normal double click. I have the right click to open the window and then click on to open to launch the program. Is there any way I can change this to just a double click .. Thanks benaa

so NOT /usr/bin/calibre
but the desktop file
/home/YourUserName/Desktop/calibre.desktop
the .desktop part of the name might be hidden

how about launching things from the program menu in the bottom left on the tool bar
and have you changed any desktop preferences
