Do KDE apps require KDE DE running?
Hi
If I am running a non-KDE window manager, is there a chance a KDE apps' user inteface would not work properly?
For example, I am running FVWM WM and Konqueror (a KDE browser). I cannot get the settings menu to open.

No, you don't need kde up and running. But you do need whatever kde stuff your app depends on. Most things need kde libs (Is that kdelibs?). To check what you need for a program, run
Code:
ldd path/to/program |grep found
You need to install everything that's not found. That will be individual libraries, not package names.

I found it such a PITA that I built one machine with KDE just to run one program. It was later released as an appimage which avoided the issue - you might be able to get away with similar.

Run konqueror from a terminal, see if it complains about anything missing or broken. It is possible that a required daemon is not running.
If you installed from your distro's repositories, everything needed should have been installed.

Turns out, the gear icon on the upper right of konqueror is not for opening the Settings, but just an animation (it spins). But it can be clicked. Just get no response.
The Settings is on the menu bar, and it is working correctly.
However, the menu font size is too small. And I cannot find a way to make it bigger, in FVWM.
So it looks like you do have to be in KDE, if you want the KDE apps to look properly.

That sounds like you're giving up rather quickly. I used to run k3b and back in the last millenium, kwvdial. I was able to master any font issues that came up. Are yoiu on a 4k screen or something?
