Question Display managers for Mint 17.2 Xfce

Hello!

I have installed Linux Mint 17.2 with Xfce on my netbook. The problem is that it uses mdm, that runs slow on it. What lightweight display managers can I use? I tried with lxdm but it would always return to the login screen when attempting to log in Xfce-session

Thanks!

lightdm is pretty lightweight, and didn't move too slow on my 1999 MacBook. Here's a nice guide that tells you how to do it:

http://www.itworld.com/article/2695178/install-lightdm-1-8-5-in-linux-mint-17.html

You'll also need to change your default display manager if it doesn't ask you if you wish to do so while you install it. That can be done with this command:
Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm

I will give it a try. Thank you!

Any time! Please let me know how it goes, so others with the same issue will be able to just read this thread.

I don't know if I'm in the right place, but this looked close to what my problem is ... I installed Linux Mint with xfce desktop, and was merrily tooling along. Suddenly, an upgrade replaced my desktop and task bar. I lost my task bar shortcuts, and found some sort of task bar replacement at the top of my screen, with no shortcuts, no icons, etc. I want to go back to the original Linux Mint 17.1 desktop, but I have no clue how to accomplish that. I used to be fairly competent at computer stuff, installing multiple Red Hat versions and interfacing with Dos/Windows via networks, but maybe early onset Alzheimer's is compromising my abilities. I just want to get rid of the "improved" desktop, and return to the original. I fear that Linux developers are falling into the same hole that Microsoft fell into ... but they/you should remember that CHANGE FOR THE SAKE OF CHANGE is NOT an improvement ... it is counter-productive and ANNOYING!
