disappearing Toolbars?

Hi All,

i recently downloaded and installed Ubuntu 7.10 onto my pc..

Everything worked fine until I clicked my calender, at the top right hand side of my desktop, I then clicked on a day to add an entry.

What happened next was strange? Evolution opened up and i set up my email, trouble being I couldn't click on any other desktop via the switcher. At that moment I could still click on programs in the desktop which i was on, but that was it.

I was forced into ctrl+alt+backspace to kill the X server, and now even after a reboot I have no toolbars??? top or bottom?

I still have my icons on the desktop and i can get my browser working via a keyboard shortcut, but that is all...

I have no way of accessing any programs, Anyone any ideas as to how I managed this ...

Many thanks in advance
