Desktop launch bar vs. panel
Playing with a few distro's so will keep this in a general category, but trying to find how/what to install the mac type panel bar. Looking at a few themes like ( you can see the bottom is like a mac type launcher and looks cool, but the q is how?

I have used enlightenment in the past and it looks like that's what was used, but looking at the text and top panel (and considering it's in the gnome-look site) I am figuring it's running gnome. I have compiz setup and currently using emerald as the theme mgr, so what's the scoop on getting that. Is it a compiz plugin, gnome, emerald, etc....

As always, thanks for any help and suggestions .....

Try Cairo-Dock or Avant Window Navigator ("AWN"). Those two are commonly used as launcher panels, and can resemble an OS X panel (or a lot of other things), if you like..

They don't depend on the desktop, as they're separate projects (i.e. they're not under Gnome or anything), but they may depend on other software such as Compiz being available..

AVN install was quick and easy. I think I like the Cario one better from the screenshots so doing that now... thanks for the quick reply!

Both look good (to me), but I noticed some speed/smoothness differences between them (how fast they respond). The interesting thing was, however, that a lot of texts on the web claimed the difference to be the other way around :) go figure.. It's not hardware-related, that I know, but something else. Both were usable, anyway..

There are probably others than those two if you're instersted, but last time I checked, those seemed the most mature.
