Desktop icons disappeared
Good day
After system upgrade from SUSE 13.1 to SUSE 15.3, the desktop icons suddenly disappear and not sure how is this possible. The only thing on the desktop screen is Trash folder.
anyone who can assist or advise why this is happening and how to resolve it.
Regards,
Tebza

That's a big change. Which desktop do you use? If your upgrade didn't include a fresh, empty home directory, you may need to delete configuration files. Without knowing whether you are a KDE, Gnome or other DE user, specific information cannot be suggested, other than to delete all hidden directories (.*) while logged out of X, and logged in on a vtty (e.g. after Ctrl-Alt-F3 from the GUI login screen). This extreme would wipe out all personal configuration data, as well as web browser and email settings and data. Before deleting everything, try just deleting the content of ~/.cache/, then login normally to test.

Hi MrMazda
The desktop in use is KDE and this is a fresh installation on BrandNew hardware.
After the installation everything worked but after couple of days, the icons on the desktop disappeared, and these are shortcut for Firefox, LibreOffice etc.
Regards Thanks,
Tebza

On rare occasion when I have a hard system shut done I find that the KDE options are scrambled when I boot. So I suggest that you follow uteck's advice and reset all of your KDE options.

Please show us information about your hardware and its configuration by first doing the following:
Code:
sudo zypper in inxi
sudo zypper -U
Once this is done, paste here Konsole input/output from the following: Note that 15.3 will no longer be supported as of a month from now. Upgrading now to 15.4 may provide whatever fix may be needed to bring your icons back. This upgrade can be performed from the running system using either YaST or Zypper, or offline using the 15.4 installation media.
