Debian Lenny Xfce - Windows bigger than screen
 

Hello forum.
I have been using XFCE on the Acer Aspire one.
However, the windows are frequently bigger than the screen, and with no option to resize them, they frequently get big enough to simply leave the screen, making sure the "next" buttons and the like are out of reach.

I have adjusted the Margen in the settings to match that of my lower menu, but it still does it (and always exits through the botton of the screen).

I followed the advice of the Debian Acer One article, and adjusted the appropriate section of my xorg.conf file

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Configured Monitor"
DisplaySize 195 133
Option "NoDDC"
EndSection


The ideal solution would be forcing the windows to either resize or use scrolling.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Haven't used XFCE recently, but it should have a way that you can tell windows to remember dimensions (try right clicking on the titlebar or the menu button if there is one).

You should be able to hold ALT and click anywhere on a window to move it as if you had the title bar. This allows you to move it even if the titlebar is off the screen.

There is such a configuration - The Margin, that I already adjusted. However, the windows still show this weird behavior.

is the 133 you posted a typo ? or is that what you actually have in your settings.

I found I prefer LXDE as the desktop on my Aspireone as opposed to XFCE.. but that could just be personal preference.

Oh. It did say that.
However, I changed it, and my windows (Evolution at least) does not obey my margin.
LXDE looks a bit to much like KDE for my taste. I prefer the GNOME-Like DE's.

Check the links in my sig.. maybe you will find something on one of the various how-to's that will shed some light on your issue. Amazing how the detail level for various items is different across distributions in the how-to's.
The Arch Linux AAO how-to is HUGE compared to the Debian AAO how-to. Just means theres lots of good info buried in there :)
