Debian Iceweasel Add-ons Not Working

Just recently started using Debian. I've used linux for a while.

I can't get any of my add-ons to install in iceweasel. Here's what I'm doing:
Click on "Install" button from firefox extension
Nothing happens. About 5 minutes later, the window comes up asking me what I want to do. I click "Install Now". Another 5 minute wait. Then I get an error box that says 228 download error. This happens on every extension/theme I've tried.

Any ideas? It occurred to me that it might be a permissions problem, but I don't know what to do to fix it if it is.

Im on Debian sid.

I'm on Debian testing (Lenny) right now, and I've been having problems with my Iceweasel, too! I'm currently using Epiphany, and it's treating me well, but the problem I'm running into is that half of the webpages I go to, the text is replaced with underscores, and no images load.

I'm sorry, I know this doesn't really help you, but I figured I might as well post to let you know you aren't the only one with some *serious* Iceweasel issues.

Solved!

I did a lot of research, and came across this thread in the Ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=587533&page=2

The problem seems to be distribution-independent, unrelated to Debian or Iceweasel. The problem looks like it is DNS-based. I tried open-DNS, which I use on Windows without problems, but that didn't fix the problem. Putting the correct IP in /etc/hosts worked for me.
