Debian desktop & Internet is very slow
Hi, Lately my Debian desktop system is slow to response.
Prior to this sluggishness, my pc and internet browsing is running smoothly but after this sluggishness, every actions-such as clicking, copy & paste, opening/saving a document and browsing web pages takes
longer than usual to response.
Initially I thought it must be internet connection is slow but when I connect my mobile phone using wifi on my router/adsl to run the speed test. It reported my internet connection is 250 mbps whilst my debian desktop reported a measley 50mbps using ethernet cable. (my subscription plan is 300mbps). I have used bleachbit-app to clear some files and also clear cache in Chrome browser but the sluggishness still remains
My system is Debian 11 bullseye is residing on primary partition (internal hdd) on a 80.0 Gib with 5.0 Gib free space and dual booting with Windows 10 and has 8.0 Gib memory. My home partition is separated and has 4.0 Gib free space.
What is the problem and what must I do?
thanks for helping.

A couple of thoughts:
Try reseating the ethernet cable.
Run top or htop to monitor processes.
Check out some of the suggestions in this article.

Does Windows speed test show the same results? It looks like your Ethernet speed is only 100 Mbs versus 1Gb. Check the output ethtool.

Response:
I have check-out "top" and this screen is displayed.
(kindly see the attachments). I do not know what information to note"
As for "htop" the error displayed is "command not found"
Kindly advise.
Thanks

From your screenshot, 51% of the CPU is used by kworker attached to a USB hub. If you have a USB hub attached try disconnecting it, but it probably has your keyboard attached I guess

That overload of kworker is very strange. I have 14 instances currently reported by top and none using enough CPU to report. You might find this helpful: https://candid.technology/kworker/
