Debian 2.6.26 ivtv with Hauppage PVR350
Hello,
first post here, have been lurking around for some time, and I thought maybe somebody could help out with an issue I have concerning a Hauppage PVR350 TV tuner card. I run Debian Lenny/Squeeze on 2.6.26 - and wanted to install the ivtv package, through module-assistant. The build goes well, but when trying to install - the following error occurs: Quote:
I read the ivtv wiki, and guidelines - the firmware is available under /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware and has proper permissions, so the other requisites should all be met. I also found some comments on this issue while googling, but nothing conclusive, or informative to make the problem go away. Would any of you have any more information about this, and a potential fix? Thanks a lot, already - I appreciate any input a lot. Kind regards, Frank |
Welcome to LQ.
Sorry, that your 1st LQ post hasn't gotten a response. Sorrier that I have no answers for you. Your post is clearly written & don't understand why you haven't at least gotten requests for clarification or more information. Maybe my reply will stir something up for you. Edit: Post 3500, another milestone. |
No problem - it's still open
Hello,
thanks for the bump. I will be trying to make some more progress on my own, over the upcoming weekend - and will post the results of that searching. In the meantime, I upgraded to Sid where ivtv packages should be more ingrained in the debian default, so the problem might evolve a bit, hopefully. Thanks again for the bump - I appreciate your help. Kind regards, Frank |
Catch up: You're very welcome. Thanks for the appreciation.
It's been a while, any progress to report? |
Not much happened in the meantime
Hello,
thank you for the followup. The card is still sitting in my box here, unused at the moment - I can see the ivtv modules are loaded, and at the same time the card is recognized, but it will take more fiddling than that apparently. I'll post more info when I find some time to take a decent look at it, which should be the next couple of weeks ... I also migrated back to Squeeze, since Sid was giving me a couple of headaches on other levels, and was just not worth the hassle. Might be easier now, on Squeeze, as in less bleeding-edge, but we'll have to see about that first ... Thanks already, Kind regards, Frank |
I have friends who use sidux as a compromise between testing & pure sid.

Might try that
Hello,
thanks for the tip. I was also thinking to try out a live distro from ubuntu or perhaps something with binaries on it that provide support for the TV card out of the box, fi. with MythTv bundled on it ... to see how that fares. Might give some insights in how it can be set up, and go from there to get it going in Debian too ... From what I see and hear - it should not be too difficult, but time has not been on my side the last couple of weeks, so we'll see how that turns out ... Thanks for the followup in the meantime! Kind regards, Frank |

in case this problem still exists, post the output of the following commands:
dmesg | grep ivtv lsmod uname -r btw. I'm using this card for at least 7 years with debian and it has always worked. Also the ivtv modules are included in the kernel now, so it should indeed work out of the box. |
@Saedelaere - will do that, should have some time in the coming days ...
@almatic - thanks for the help - here's what is reported: Quote:

I'll hook up cabling and connections later on in the week, and will try to report back on the issue. Thanks for helping out, all! Kind regards, Frank |
