Crossover in Business and Industry Initiative ?
 

Has there ever been a successful approach to get industrial and business software (mainly based on MS-Windows) running on a large scale with Crossover http://www.codeweavers.com/ in a company/firm/enterprise/corporation ?

I know there are lots of Win-Applications running fine with Crossover, but did it make into the hard-business sector ?

What are your experiences on that ?

Companies are reluctant to use linux for desktop users in my opinion. They purchase an entire system along with servers and such that all have windows in most cases. If they are in some art or odd business they might even have Mac. The price they pay for each system in batches of thousands doesn't see to bother them. They can't spend time trying to get people taught on how to run linux and windows on wine.

There are many industrial computers running linux for business and of course server work. They tend to remain only linux.

It is the issue with the common desktop user and not the OS so much.

Even in high tech companies they have real issues with use of applications. IBM tried to get their staff to use OS/2 and that generally didn't work as well as you'd have thought.

Mostly, success stories with Linux desktop adoption are those involving types of work where no specialized software that is Windows based exists,...

Those businesses where the machines are more kiosk-like, or where the office work is very general tend to be the better ones...

The big success story early on was Ernie Ball, the guitar string manufacturer. They switched to Linux exclusively after being hosed by the BSA. Still on Linux, from what I understand.
