Converting PATA live CD to SATA possible?

I have several old live CDs that only boot in PATA (parallel ATA, aka IDE I think). I would like to know if there is a way of converting them in a way that a machine with SATA optical drives can boot from them.

My guess is they only boot from PATA because they don't have support for the sata controller. You'd have to remaster it with support.

It may be that a usb cd drive would work.

In some cases the image might be put on a usb flash drive.

Grub2 may be able to boot them if they reside in image form also.
