conky under transparent gnome-terminal does not show

I am using ratpoison on my 12" laptop because of the small screen and because I think it is convenient. Not because I am against eye-candy.

Hence, I was trying to get conky to run under a semi-transparent gnome-terminal, but it does not work.

I am using Ubuntu (maybe closer to XUbuntu now). And I have only modified xorg.conf to add the double buffer extension.

I tried running xcompmgr -c while having conky and gnome-terminal running, but it did not help.

Transparency is just fine as well. And I can see a small piece of conky at the bottom of the display (gnome-terminal does not occupy the whole screen), but not *through*.

What is the problem, now?

I get real transparency with transset after using xcompmgr - assuming a properly configured xorg.conf.

As far as I know xcompmgr just activates composite features and adds the dropped shadow stuff, but you need transset so set actual transparency.

I use both that way:

xcompmgr -Cc -r3 -o.55 -l+5 -t+3

and

transset-df .5

for example.

Thanks but it still does not work.

I use gnome-terminal because it is supposed to do real transparency. And transset makes the fonts transparent too, so not good in a terminal...

But thanks anyway.
