Conky configuration

Hi folks,

I tried conky yesterday and have two issues with it. My DE is KDE 4.

1. I added conky to KDE autostart with 5 seconds load (sleep 5 && conky) and each time after starting the DE font looks like shit, namely, some characters are heavily overlapped with the others. Attached is screenshot, please take a look. An interesting thing is that after manual conky restart that problem never occurs. What is the reason and how can I fix it permanently from the autostart?

2. conky disappears after tapping anywhere on desktop. I want it to stay all the time (on the desktop wallpaper, not above all windows obviously), no matter what I'm doing.

Here is my current .conkyrc file:

Code:
alignment top_right
background no
border_width 1
cpu_avg_samples 2
double_buffer yes
default_color white
default_outline_color white
default_shade_color white

yes, that looks horrible.
i have seen this before with conky, it's basically overwriting its own output.
but it could also be the kde desktop manager doing that, idk.

the second thing definitely has to do with the desktop manager (KDE).

all you can do is play with conky config settings, and possibly also KDE's settings.

you need to look at the own_window_... config options mostly, and play with those.
Code:
man conky
all in all, conky doesn't play too well with desktop managers.

I got it finally...

1. The issue was that I not only made a symlink to conky in autostart, but also put here shell script that started it after 5 seconds delay -- so I had two instances of conky running simultaneously.

2. "own_window_type dock" and "own_window_hints below" in .conkyrc fixed it.

I also found that conky appears only on one of virtual desktops, but I wanted to have it everywhere, so I used KDE GUI to configure it on all desktops: System Settings / Window Behavior / Window Rules / Size & Position tab.
