configuring the desktop screen resolution ?

I have a question !
It's a question I have asked before.
This is a question you cannot answer, It is a question you will
not answer. It's off limits, verboten, forbidden , Not only will
you not answer it, you will completely disregard it.
Even though I ask the question it will be as if it never happened.
This Question shows just how controlled, and managed, linux
discussion groups really are, how there are some subjects you
just aren't allowed to discuss. How Free and Open you are in
your discussions is really just a sham. A self deceit.
Well here goes, Here is the question you will not dare to answer !

How do you set up a virtual screen resolution in the
Ubuntu Linux distribution ?

What's the matter ? cat got your tongue ?
Don't everybody answer it at once.
The Silence is deafening !

You might want to include which version of Ubuntu you are running and also post which VM you are launching/using.

the kernel is

Linux ubuntu 4.4.0-31-generic #50-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 13 00:06:14 UTC 2016 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux

I am running it Live from The DVD so I have not installed it yet,
it's not a virtual machine, it's running from the DVD.

so to summarize

who - Running from the DVD, Live
Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS 32 bit Desktop Edition
kernel 4.40-31-generic #50 Ubuntu SMP i686

what - It has booted up and is running, now I would like to confugure a
Virtual Screen on the Desktop.

where - On the computer that is running.

when - At the present time.

how - That is the question.

why - Because thats what I want to do.
