Compressing files in Gnome 3

Overall, Gnome 3, fantastic.
Previously in Gnome 2 there was a compression option in the context menu.
I am now back to recursive compression using the cli. What is the efficient way of doing this in Gnome 3.
I know I can call up the archiver and make an archive and add the files but this is loads slower than using the cli.
Is there a way as quick as right click>archive or whatever it was in Gnome 2?

you can configure gnome3

but keep in mind that gnome 3 is still considered by most as BETA

as a "early adapter " you will need to learn to work with it before it is "fully baked"
