IIRC: Each side needs to be a whole power of two wide.

eg 1024x512 is OK (2^10 x 2^9) but 1024x768 (2^10 x 2^9+2^8) isn't. I use 512x512 made seamless. Some people get good results from 2048x512 (2^11 x 2^9)

If this dosn't work, try to diagnose exactly how the size is wrong. You can do this by making a skydome image with regular squares on it.

i will try this with the squares it seems like a good idea i have tried many different resolutions 2048 x 512 being one of them
but on a different note do you know where the settings for the image or where the settings for the enlargement of the skydome animated?

I understand that the skydome scaling is something not intended for user modification. Which means you'd have to recompile.

Note: it's not just another wallpaper effect. The image is also distorted to give a concave appearance. Choose an abstract image like everyone else. Or you can put the picture you want central in a larger canvass.
