Changing window focus / cursor locked in window

I run an OpenGL game application, and the cursor remains locked inside that window when I change modes from full-screen to windowed (alt-enter).

I can't seem to do anything to switch to another window or desktop, or activate the app launcher menu. I'd like to know how to release the cursor from that window.

If your desktop environment supports applicaton switching (usually via alt+tab) you should be able to toggle focus on another window, one that isn't grabbing the mouse.

I know this works for KDE (which i use).

I'm using KDE as well, and that doesn't seem to work. All inputs are being handled by this window.

I'm wondering if I can set a workaround with a window rule or something, where a hotkey will interrupt it and release me to the desktop area without closing or minimizing the window itself.
