Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I have done some search on google, kde and here websites and found nothing answering to my question.
I want to change the icons set of KDE4, so I downloaded a theme from kde-look.org, and it changed most of them, though many it couldn't (it's a kde3 theme). I then decided to change the remaining icons myself.
Well, that didn't work. I know the default blue simple folder icon is located in "places" subfolder, so I renamed the folder.png and took another one named folder.png. Nothing changed. I then right-clicked a folder, clicked to change the icon, in the list of icons to select the folder icon I want, the new folder.png icon shows like the default blue folder, though when I select it and apply it on the folder, it changes to the new image I want. Weird. Of course it changes only the ones I manually right-click. I cannot get all simple folders changed by default.
So where is that blue folder icon so that I can get it out of my view and use another one to match my color theme? There are very very few complete icons set for KDE4 yet.
This worked for me with the Buuf icon theme from kde-look.org:
1. In the root directory of the icon theme, make a symlink called "scalable" that's linked to the 128x128 folder:
ln -s 128x128/ scalable
2. In each folder (128x128, 64x64, etc), copy the folder.png icon from filesystems and paste into the mimetypes folder. Then rename it to inode-directory.png
3. Add the following to the end of the index.theme file:
Hey great, that's the workaround I was looking for. I will give it a try and see if that works.
Otherwise, true KDE4 icon sets are slowly coming out, so by the summer there should be a few of them fully functional out of the package. But I will surely try with the one I want to use.
There is a script available now that converts KDE3 icon sets to KDE4. It converts most, but not all icons. It's much better than just editing the index.theme file though.
