Can yahoo messenger be installed on a open suse 10.2 install

loving the look and feel of open suse 10.2. But trying to figure out how to install programs. Any info greatly appreciated I am a newbie and need to learn sorry for my ignorance.

Download Yahoo messenger from here:
http://download.yahoo.com/dl/unix/rh...0.4-1.i386.rpm

Save it in your home folder.

Run the following commands one by one on your terminal:

Code:

su
rpm -i rh9.ymessenger-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm

To run it, type the following on your terminal:

Code:

ymessenger

You need to install the dependencies. Fire up yast, go into software management, and search for gdk.

On a couple of related notes...openSUSE 10.2 is old...11.2 is the latest, and 11.3 is in beta, so if this is a fresh install, I'd install the latest versions of things. And, you can use gyachi, kopete, and pidgin for Yahoo chat.

Avoid the official Yahoo Messenger, it is very old, unmaintained and has very few features.

I like pidgin.

apt-get install pidgin #maybe thats not for opensuse...
