can't run "AboutUbuntu" from the gnome panel

So what might I have done to break System-->AboutUbuntu on my Gnome panel?

I can select this menu option and see the watch-cursor spin and then vanish. No window or other items display on my desktop anywhere. Nothing appears in /var/log/messages.

Curiously stumped,

You might try dragging the menu item on the desktop, right clicking on it and learning the name of the actual program run, and what it's arguments are.

Then try running the program from the shell and see what error message you get.

I keep forgetting...

When I right-click on the menu item and learn nothing, I always forget that I must drag from the menu to the desk first. Why I forget? Dunno!
Why we must do that? Dunno either!

Thanks, heaps, (and stacks and arrays and lists, and ... )

The command in play is
Code:

yelp ghelp:about-ubuntu
when I try to run things from the shell I get
Code:

user@host:/path/ $ yelp ghelp:about-ubuntu

Could not initialize gecko!

user@host:/path/ $

(grin) I don' need no stinkin' insurance ...
Can anyone help me with whatever 'gecko' is?

Did you try modifying mozilla in any way, upgrade or remove etc.

Because from what I learned from google is that this problem with yelp is related to the files
compreg.dat and xpti.dat

which are both located under ~/.mozilla/firefox.... (They are present in my system and yelp works)
locate for the above 2 files and see if you have them.

I am not very sure of the solution though, may be you can try reinstalling mozilla or copy these files from some other system.

(blush) I never thought to associate "gecko" with "mozilla."

Thanks,
