Folks, some people perceive themselves as part of a tight-knit security community and open accounts just to necro-bump threads like these, solidarizing themselves with a perceived underdog.

Whoever is "new to Linux", wants to jump in at the deep end, and doesn't even realise that Kali always runs as root (or at least that's how it was a year ago) deserves a little bashing IMO.
Here's how Kali themselves great new users (what a horrible video):

I tried creating new users and still, it looped back to the login screen. I tried googling to see if others had this problem. I tried dropping into a shell with cntrl+alt+F1 and I tried the dpkg --configure -a, apt-get update, apt-get upgrade and still it doesn't work to login to normal user. I even tried reinstalling the whole operating system from a live usb and it's STILL doing it. I can only login from the root account. I even tried reinstalling to a different hard drive and it's STILL doing it. I never had this problem before and I don't understand why all of a sudden I can't log into my normal user accounts. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

This is a year-old thread, necro posted to yesterday by a new user that added nothing to the discussion.

Just sayin'
