Beryl settings question

Hello,

Okay so I have setup Beryl on my Ubuntu installation partion and its working good however I can't seem to find the setting in it that allows me to give my minimize, maximize and close buttons on the top of the windows. Also I was wondering if there is a way to make it so I can move the windows with the mouse instead of having to hold ALT and then move it with the mouse.

Also on a side note the rain does not trigger when i hit shift F9 however I'm still looking into that but if someone knows an easy answer then even better.

It sounds like your window decorator has crashed. From the Beryl manager menu in the taskbar, select "standard beryl" as your decorator, then restart your window decorator.

Your installation sounds incomplete. I see a choice of:

- Standard Beryl (Emerald)
- Aquamarine (KDE decorator)
- Heliodor (Gnome/Metacity decorator)
- GTK window decorator

What distribution are you using?

You need to add the Fedora Core 6 Extras repository and then follow this howto.

To add the Fedora 6 Extras repository, create a file in the /etc/yum.repos.d/ directory with the following content:

Code:
[extras]
name=Fedora Extras $releasever - $basearch
baseurl=http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/extras/$releasever/$b
asearch/
mirrorlist=http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?repo=extras-$releasever&a
rch=$basearch
enabled=0
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-fedora-extras
gpgcheck=1
Install the Fedora extras GPG key (only needs to be done once) with:
Code:
rpm --import http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/extras/RPM-GPG-KEY-Fedora-Extras

Then install beryl using yum with the '--enablerepo=extras' option. For example:

Code:
yum --enablerepo=extras install beryl

Run synaptic, search beryl, and make sure you've selected all the necessary packages.

Well trying to resolve the problem i ran into another one. I changed the rendering from automatic to nvidia then to another option I forget which one it was to see if it would fix it, however it didn't. Now whenever i launch beryl manager my X session freezes i have to manually reset the box by holding down the power button.

I have uninstalled beryl completely and re-installed it but it seems to be keeping that setting, i can't seem to find where beryl is hiding these settings. Any idea's ?

I have even re-installed the nvidia drivers to no avail.

To reset beryl to default:

rm -rf ~/.beryl*

thanks man ! rm'ing thouse files fixed everything, i even have the emerald themes now. I checked symantics and there is still a few packages not installed such as:

Beryl-core-dbg
Beryl-defaults
Beryl-dev
Beryl-plugins-dbg
Beryl-settings-simple
beryl-ubuntu

***
Beryl-plugins-unsupported
Beryl-plugins-unsupported-dat
Beryl-plugins-unsupported-dbg

I figure i should probably install all the ones above the ** however not sure if i should install the unsupported ones or not ?

Also i still don't see - Heliodor (Gnome/Metacity decorator) as a windows decor i see emerald now, would where do you find Heliodor (Gnome/Metacity decorator)

You can skip the debug packages and the simple settings manager. Heliodor is in the list of packages that show up when I search for beryl in synaptic, but you only need one window decorator that works.

Check that it's enabled in the beryl settings manager, and also that it's set to use the keyboard shortcut; you may need the defaults package to pre-configure it.

Yeah i have the defaults package installed and have enabled the rain effect plus setup the shortcut key to Crtl + 0

however it still does not trigger. I think it might be because of my video card its only a Geforce 4 Ti4200 128MB card. I have read about that you need pixle shadders for it to run or something.
