Authentification as root fails in GDM

Hi
I need help with my gdm.
Everytime I try to enter my root password in gdm he sais it's wrong.
It doesn't work neither on the loginscreen (although AllowRoot is set to true)
nor when I try to enter the loginscreen options
nor when I try to su in a console
nor when a programm asks me for my password.

I've entered it like 40 times and it's definitely not wrong. It works very well at the terminals.

I don't know further and really need your help.

Many thanks in advance!

If it doesn't work in all of those, you are not entering the currect root password.

As far as 'su' is concerned, are you sure your user is allowed to 'su' (is member of necessary group)?

Once again... I reinstalled gdm and it doesn't work again,
