ati and dual monitor support confusion

Hey all,

I want to do a dual monitor setup with an ATI x300SE such that the two monitors have completely seperate desktops... aka I am *not* stretching a single desktop across both monitors.

I am slightly confused about the whole driver situation. Maybe you can either correct me if i'm wrong or give me additional advice?

So, I've been using the "radeon" driver as opposed to the fglrx driver. It has worked fine for me and I have direct rendering support. However, if I use the radeon drive for dual monitor support I need to use Xinerama? If I use Xinerama, I lose direct rendering support? Is that correct?

Therefore, I would want to try and switch over to fglrx to do dual monitor and keep direct rendering?

Also, what is MergedFB? Does this allow what I want with direct rendering?

Thanks!
George
