hey guys I finally got rid Windows 7 and running Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit and it's been great so far evertything is working to par but trying to install my ati 5450 video card but not sure where to go. I went to software sources but wouldn't take me from default can someone help me out I also was using the sudo command but I also use the ubuntu forum and they told me for security to not use since I use it for banking and personal home.

Hey Gordie.

Are you trying to install the video driver?

If so, you'll want to head under additional drivers in software sources and choose the proprietary FGLRX driver (the one that does not say updates, to install the updates version you have to enable the proposed updates repository).

Are you using standard Ubuntu or the Gnome remix? If your plan is to use Gnome I would go with the remix.

You may want to stick with the open source driver for video if possible, I do (it works really well in 13.04, so look out for that being released in less than a week).

Otherwise try:

Code:

sudo apt-get install fglrx
Let us know the output if it doesn't work.

Thanks.
