I don't know.

I am just saying that it seems strange for me that Marble would only work under KDE.

Like there is a way and a guide to create one's own distribution, similarily is there a way to create one's own Desktop Environment ?

What do you mean? Why are you not satisfied with existing ones?

If you mean a completely new one, and you're very good at programming...

Or if you mean put together components of existing DEs, I guess that's possible. But KDE is so tightly integrated* that I doubt you can use any of it's parts in your custom desktop alone.

*I HATE tight integration! Modularity is the best!

Why don't you try installing another DE/WM using OpenSuse's package manager, then seeing if KDE apps are available from that DE/WM's menu?

Thanks for bothering !

That's exactly what I meant.

I don't think that's possible completely as I tried many ways to set Dolphin the default file manager of Gnome but couldn't succeed.

I am currently using LXDE, I don't know whether it is tightly integrated as Gnome or KDE ?

Yes I tried that today,

Kde is already installed.
I installed LXDE today and it is showing kde's applications. Didn't try anything with marble yet on LXDE !

Anyway it would be nice if i could mix up my favourite ingredients and get a re-mixed desktop environment !

It will still use all its KDE dependencies, so I don't think there will be any speeding up.

Marble. What I meant was, with it being a KDE app., it would perform the same with LXDE (or any other DE) as it does with KDE.

LXDE has pretty much no integration, AFAIK it doesn't even have an LXDE library.

As for Xfce, the apps do share an Xfce library, but they can be freely used anywhere without problems.

Have you actually tried running Marble in a non-KDE desktop? All the KDE apps I know work fine without KDE running, there is no debate about that.

I am not bothered about Marble's speed, its KDE's speed that's bugging me !

I think you didn't read post# 21. I have now KDE as well as LXDE installed.

Just now I tried Marble and yes it was working (with LXDE) but for that I had to install two desktop environments.

What's so bad about just having KDE installed?

Relax, slow down. You young ones are far too obsessed with speed these days. Wait 'til you get to my age (and all that rubbish ). You can't pick and mix DE's like you would like to do. Just be satisfied with one or the other. It's not an ideal world, Anisha. You can't always get what you want.

I don't like the jumping image on the side of cursor whenever i login or click on something.

That jumping image means some background processing is going on !

and before that image settles down, if I click on firefox or kmail, things get slower or even hang sometimes. !!
