Another Problem

I do not know how to add a printer with fedora 13. I set up the printer on my old fedora 8 quite a while ago (when I bought it and it was advertised as compatible with Linux). It is a magicolor 2530 DL laser printer.

It is a "network printer" simply connected to the Ethernet of my home network. Setting the thing up to print on any of my other machines is easy. All I have to do is give the Ethernet address and answer the appropriate questions.

When I bought the thing, I couldn't get fedora 8 to work with the thing so I called Konica Minolta for help. It turned out that the thing required the use of cups and samba. The guy at Minolta talked me through it. Now the thing is out of warranty and help is not to be expected from them.

When I use the fedora “add printer” utility it doesn't seem to find this printer in the database. I can get it to see a printer at the Ethernet address but the fedora system keeps telling me it's an inkjet printer. When I “print a test page” I get about four pages of stuff that looks like printing instructions.

Need a little advice please.

Thanks Dick

Have you tried adding the printer via the cups web interface?

Hey...these links helped me in the past, perhaps it can help you too:
http://dev.linuxfoundation.org/~till...orial/tut.html and
http://www.cups.org/doc-1.1/sum.html
By the way, install the gutenprint pack as it has a lot more drivers...
Basically you connect using a local website and follow the wizard.
Once that is done, you may have to set up the printer in the gnome applet too...

Use IPP as protocol.
