I am trying AfterStep. I do not like the new KDE at all and I am a bit bored with Gnome, though I still like it. I have XP and Vista installed. After Vista and Aero it just makes me want something more simpler and not so bloated and a resource hog. So for a DE I switched to XFCE, Xubuntu.

I got in a mood to try WM's. My favorites so far are Fluxbox and AfterStep.

What I am trying to do with AfterStep is move some things around on the desktop. I have a dual monitor, both 1440x900. The top bar stretches across the top of both monitors. I want to have it just on the right monitor and have my primary monitor free for windows, etc. I also want to move the dock menu to the right monitor as well. I don't know how to do this, can it be done or is everything going to stay pretty much where it is?

I figured out how to roll the docked menu to the left or right. As far as the top bar, if I can't shrink it I may just have to get use to it. I really do like AfterStep. It is just new and very different to me.

Here is a screen shot of my desktop for now. As I said I have two 1440x900 monitors. Actual size of image is 1001.7 kB, actual size is 2880px 900px. The link below resizes the image to 800x300 with a link above it for the actual image.

You can see what I mean about the top bar going straight across. I would like to resize it if I can but I will settle with it as is for now if I have to.

Ignore this post. I just found the settings for it, finally, lol. It is under the modules section in the menu.

Saving Desktop Settings when I log off.......
Now I have a new annoyance. Does anyone know how to save the desktop settings when I log off? I get everything set up the way I want, I log off and it all resets.

Maybe it is just me. I started this thread with questions and I liked AfterStep a lot. Now I decided to just "step" back from it for awhile. Some things don't seem to work right but as I said it may just be me.

I am using FluxBox and XFCE. So that is good for now. Though I will be playing around with OpenBox and will eventually switch to that permanently.

I also see by the lack of responses and very few views there are not that many AfterStep users here, lol.

No I loved After step and I hated it when they dropped it, ESPECIALLY from Dynebolic (they switched that to a Windows interface!!! :(((( ). Have you tried WindowMaker?

I have Window Maker installed but I don't believe I tried it yet. I have a lot of WM's installed at the moment.

I almost like it (AfterStep) a lot but it doesn't work right. I have the hardware to easily support a DE like KDE or Gnome, actually my hardware works good with Vista and Aero (However Vista, even with Aero turned off, really hogs things.)

I love running 3D applications, such as games, etc. But I don't need or want a bloated WM or DE. That part i just want to be simple.

One thing I loved about AfterStep was the terminal tabs. I would like to get something like that in another WM.
