A way to change a fixed disk partition label.

Hi: I have some partitions on the disk which have no label in it. The cfdisk linux program run with no options initially displays several columns. For one of them the header says 'label'. This is the meaning I'm giving to the word 'label' here.

What would be a way to change the label for a partition?

label would presumably refer to the ext2 label if the ext2/3/4 filesystem has it. That's not at partition level technically but would be my presumption. This can be modified by the e2label tool

assuming ext{2,3,4}

Code:
e2label /dev/sdX1
simply returns the current label

Code:
e2label /dev/sdX1 NewLabel
sets (or changes ) the label to NewLabel
