[xfce4] - Make an application not transparent

Is there a way to make a video player not transparent when it's not the active window despite transparency being enabled? xine and gxine seem to do this by default but I'd like to do it to vlc as well...

I've tried a couple of solutions already but none of them ended up working.

Are you using the composite extension for the xfce window manager, or are you using compiz-fusion?

As far as I know, for the xfce window manager, it's possible to change the transparency on the fly, by holding down alt and scrolling up and down with the scrollwheel. However I don't think this is permanent.

For compiz-fusion, I think it's possible to exclude windows of a specific type from the transparency settings.

I'm using xfce's window manager.

I need something like this. Somehow certain apps do it by default. The alt+scrolling thing wont make a non-active window completely opaque.
