Deepin Update is Dead Slow. Can I use Ubuntu Update?

Hi,

Among other Linux Ditros I found Deepin very interesting and with beautiful GUI, but I am facing problem while updating it. Even with command line. I am using Linux Deepin Release 12.06 (precise) 32-bit on various computers. Since I am in Pakistan I do not find any Deepin server in Pakistan so in order to make updates faster can I use Ubuntu repository servers in Pakitan. Can updating with Ubuntu repositories effect Deepin funstionality?

Yes, you can relace the "ubuntu parts" with your preferred mirror.

Installed Deepin 14. Like the UI, but oh boy it is slow to update or install any other apostles from either the deepin-software-center or terminal. So can anybody give me some detail instructions how to change the repositories to ubuntu 14.04's. (Either through terminal or synaptic). Thanks

Edit /etc/apt/sources.list ( or the .list files in sources.list.d/

Then refresh updates in your usual way.

I wanted to edit mine to an Australian or nearby mirror. Anything would be faster than the present Chinese source that is locked into the distro. Any ideas how to do that so I can get updates but still get deepin stuff??
Note that I am not a newbie, I have edited that file before, what I hope somebody can help me to do is to find a faster repository for the bulk of the programs but still retain access to a repository for the deepin specific bits and pieces.

The above way will all work, but I find the simplest way to select the fastest Deepin Mirror is to open "Deepin Store" (software center), click the 'down arrow' in upper right corner, choose "preferences", then "mirrors tab", then "select best mirror".. It will find the fastest mirror and edit your sources list without having to manually edit...:hattip:

Thanks

Thanks Gene.Ch for your advice... it seems to be the solution. I changed the mirror and it is going much better downloading and updating apps.

Thanks Gene, had no idea that we could do things like that. It found my closest and fastest mirror was in Indonesia.
I thought we had fast Australian mirrors but apparently that is what the system selected.

It just did a very fast update check and is all done while I am writing this. Impressive, and an impressive tip. Thanks again ;)
