There are a bunch of resources that can be had. I suggest that if you are not an experienced admin, avoid the "cram" book, as they assume you already have a fair amount of know-how. Take a look at:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...879596-8745214

When I was teaching prep courses, I used the objectives for the RHCE from Redhat:

http://www.redhat.com/training/rhce/examprep.html

and just covered the objective according to the needs of my students.

Bottom line, as far as I can tell, is that there is not one comprehensive "best text" for the RHCE. Some books have strong points, some have weak points. I hope some of the RHCE's in the forum will chime in with their experiences...

Good luck! Certification raises the level for all of us. Like what's her name said, "it's a good thing."

Hi,

I agree with profjohn...that there is no one book in the market for that...but the link of amazon referred in the post shows all the old books. As Red Hat has upgraded its RHCE cert exam to RHEL 3...there is no new book which cover this. Still no such updated book has been released in the market.

I am also trying to find a book which has all the enterprise tools defined in it, which has been added in RHEL 3.

I have not been able to find good documentation on these tools on the redhat site.

I hope someone who has appeared for RHCE on RHEL 3 could guide us to get the documentation for that.

I haven't read it yet, but it looks like there's an updated study guide based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 - http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...954724-9329742

The best study guide for RHCE is hands on lots and lots of hands on. Be able to configure everything that comes with RHEL 3 and fix it when it's broken and it will be easy. I wouldn't waste the time or money on the books. Wish I could tell you more but the NDA prohibits it. The funny thing is I don't even like Redhat but because IBM and Oracle only certify their apps on Suse and Redhat I tend to use it a good bit at work.
