Question Unix certs Linux certs and jobs

I am curently looking into Unix Linux and networking certs. And I am woundering if getting a Unix cert might help out with getting a job in linux?

The quick background: I am an Active duty Air Force member, who will most likely be getting out in 4 years (giving me 8 years in), I curently have great experience in Mobile Help Desk functions. Next to zero experience in Networking, servers... But am planing on getting a networking based cert. My current job might get me some Sun Solaris trainning, which made me wounder if getting Solaris certified might help in getting a Linux job.

Any help would be greatly apricated.

Only thing I can say is it can't hurt. If they send you to the training, go ahead and take the test.
