Study Matterials for LPIC-2/3?
 

There appears to be a decent sybex book for LPIC-1, just released Sept 2005.

But what about LPIC-2/3? Anything recent, and worthwhile for those?

I don't know if I've seen matterial for LPIC-3.

LPIC-3 is all electives. It's my understanding you'll have to pick two of the available L3 tests. Currently there's only one available though (I think, not 100% sure) and that's on Samba. So pretty much any book that'll give you a thorough understanding of Samba would work. ;)

As for L2 study materials, I've been seaching myself to no avail. :( And FWIW, I believe this to be a BIG business developement mistake on LPI's part. The middle ground is where they have no competition. Linux+ competes directly with LPIC-1 and higher certs like RHCE compete directly with LPIC-3 (or will someday.) It's the intermediate level admin that has gone unserved by existing certifications. That's the niche they could have grabbed without a struggle. ;)

I agree entirely about lack of study matterials being "a BIG business developement mistake." Nobody is going to get to LPIC-3 tests, if they can't study for the LPIC-2.

I think this is, and has been, a problem with a lot of cert programs. The ebiz+ has been retired, never where any books for self-study on that. The ITIL may have a good program, but try to find self-study matterials geared towards the exam - esspecially the advanced exams. Consider the popularity of msft certs and the a+/net+ certs, where there are always plenty of study matterials available. The CISSP was never all that popular, until study matterials became available. I think CIW has also shot themselves in the foot by changing their introductory exam, without any study matterials being available.

I'm studying for Security+ myself ATM. A topic I've always been interested in but never pursued vigorously until a sufficient number of "self-study" materials became available. Though I suppose much of it could be used in a formal educational setting too, for those who need additional instruction, like which chapter to read on what day. :o :D

I have the security+, and have found it to be completely worthless.

Security+ is accepted my Microsoft and not only counts as an elective towards your MCSA and/or MCSE but also adds a specialization designation to those certs, upgrading them to "MCSA: Security" and "MCSE: Security".

There is a complete shortage of study materials for the LPIC-2 which I am currently studying for, I have scoured the net for awhile and found the following:

There are several books but they are all pre-2009 objectives changes.
The best LPIC book I found that had practically everything on the LPIC-1 exam was:

....the new revised edition from the same company is coming out soon.

There are also several books and wiki's available for studying available via a simple Google search but they are all older and do not cover the 2009 objectives. I would recommend looking at the LPI page for the detailed objectives.

Make sure you know the material covered in the objectives backwards and forwards and regardless what you use to study and you will pass.
