I'm relatively new to Linux. I would like to take the RHCSA test coming up in March 2013. I have purchased the book and DVD by Michael Jang. Is this to short of a study period to take for such a exam. How difficult is the exam.Need some feed back on how i should approach preparing for such an exam.Thxs

You should study and practice. Install CentOS, configure services, and learn how to troubleshoot things. The exams aren't easy, but if you know what you're doing, they're not that hard, either.

And PLEASE...don't just take an exam to get a 'certification'. There are legions of people out there right now with 'certifications', who have no idea what they're doing. Learn Linux first...then get a certification if you want to.

I will probably never understand why someone who is new to Linux wants to get a certification.
Only exeption I can see is a Windows sysadmin who suddenly is responsible for some Linux servers, but he has already experience with networking, which is a big portion of the job and independent of the OS.

I don't think 3 months is enough time for someone relatively new to linux. Red Hat recommends 1-3 years of experience in linux administration before attempting the exam. I wouldn't recommend the exam to anyone who isn't completely comfortable with leaving their Windows desktop behind and doing everything in linux. While I do think the CLI is the way to go, you should be able to use the gui on the exam however you are still going to need a pretty good understanding of the Red Hat operating system.

Know the objectives by heart, have performed them all 20 times. If you don't know something down cold, make that your priority so you do. Setup a home server with KVM. Get a hold of every book you can and be able to perform the practice exams without thinking. Download Redhat guides from redhat: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Security-Enhanced Linux, Storage Administration Guide, Identity Management Guide, etc.
