I'm about to begin preparation for RHCT/RHCE and I wanted some opinions, especially from those who have done/are studying for Red Hat. Is it necessary to spend the $$$ on a copy of RHEL to sufficiently prepare for the test, or will something like Cent OS4 suffice? Also, do you guys recommend Jang's study guide? From what I've read it's the best on the market. I'm considering taking Red Hat's classes via the web, anyone got any info on whether or not the classes get the job done as far as preparing you for the real thing? Thanks in advance...
Personally, I took the 4 day class prior to testing. I got 100% across the board and finished in around 40 minutes. Study guides cover a large ranges of topics, if you want to truely prepare for the test, take their class. They will cover everything you will need.
If that's out of the question, I would recommend using Fedora. It's essentually the test ground for RHEL, and is the closest thing to RHEL.
I have to be honest though, the test wasn't easy. There were guys there who had a lot of experience who failed. Every Distro has their own ideas of what is important, and what's not. You just have to study as best you can, and make sure you have a lot of hands on experience.
One final thing, break you system and try to fix it. Break the bootloader, break the GUI, break the networking... get a friend to break it for you and them try to fix it.
