Passed Linux+ Today
I finally took my Linux+ certification today. I will say that it was not as easy as I expected it to be. I assumed this to be an entry level certificate and maybe it is by no means difficult but I was a little surprised.
If you're taking the exam, you better know UMASK and sticky bit commands. This is my final CompTIA exam I wanted to take before I move on to RHCT. Just wanted to share my accomplishment with the forum. |
Congrats!!!! I have the RHCT, it wasn't that difficult. keep up the good work!!!

Congrats!
Looks like quite a memory test. I'm doing my RHCA at the moment, and I couldn't do half of those from memory. If you technically understand the subject material there, you'll have no trouble with RHCT, I'd probably recommend skipping it and going direct to RHCE. |
Thanks. I took the RHCT 4 day prep course and certification back in 2007 and I under estimated the exam thinking that I really knew Linux when in fact...there was so much more under the hood. I am going to re-take the exam in 2010 and if that goes well, then take my RHCE.

You're aware that the RHCE exam includes the RHCT?
|
Yes but is harder. I don't want to be overwhelmed with the RHCE and then say to myself, I should have 1st done the RHCT. If the cost wasn't so high, I would study and try it but I don't feel comfortable taking the test w/o the rapid training course which includes the test unless you can point me to any training material that really would help me focus on administration tactics covered in the exam.
|
the rapid track doesn't include the exam, and the fast track is really just a reminder, you can't really *learn* anything on that specific course at all. Remeber you can still walk away from an RHCE with the RHCT certification.

That link is a combined RH133 version, not the RH131 which is the actual course... but that's splitting hairs.
Yes, the RHCE exam is very cleanly split into 4 parts, 2 of which consist of the exact RHCT exam content. If you pass those areas and not the RHCE parts, you will be awarded the RHCT. The only thing that has changed recently, was that the time allocated for the RHCT parts has been reduced by 1 hour, in that you're there for the RHCE really, so if you need all the same time for the RHCT part then you have no hope for the RHCE... so it is the RHCT, but in a bit less time which admittedly does cloud the issue a little compared to a year ago. |
Congratulations! Linux+ is a great foundation to have. I've started working on my rhce as well. We can race. :)
Just started... |

IMHO...me *PERSONALLY*...I don't understand the reason to waste your time with the RHCT when the RHCE INCLUDES the RHCT... :twocents: -C |
well yes, that is clouded a bit now though with the reduced time available for the RHCT portion compared to the RHCT exam outright.

No, you would just take RH133 and RH253 indivudally, and then the RHCE exam at the end.

The title is misleading but the suggestions that I got will apply to any Linux admin certification. I too just started preparing for the RHCE based on the suggestions I got. Cheers... |
