Is the CompTIA Linux+ certification worth it?

I'm still fairly new to Linux and work mostly with Windows machines, but slowly the Linux boxes are starting to come into the office. I was thinking of going for the CompTIA Linux+ certification. Is this a good way to learn Linux inside and out and to boost my resume?

i dont think youll learn linux 'inside and out' with this. however, it would be great, and definetly worth it to have this on your resume. ANY certification shows that you have the motivation to prove yourself by getting certified, and, of course, that you have indepth knowledge of the area the certification is for.
just my thoughts.

Like Micro420, I too am considering the Linux+ certification. I am RHCT certified and plan to be RHCE certified in 6 months. In the meantime, would Linux+ still be worthwhile to get if I am going to be trying for both RHCE and eventually RHCSS?

You can get two credits at Excelsior College for Linux+. Red Hat isn't on their list. :(

Linux+ is well recognised and I would advise you to take it in conjunction with any other distro specific certifications just to cover your bases. If you have a distro specific certification, this may be a problem if you happen to apply for a job where the distro is not in use or multiple distros are used.

Thanks for your responses! It sounds like it couldn't hurt to have a Linux+ certification. Fortunately my company will pay for these certifications, assuming I pass!

I am taking my Network+ certification this Friday. I hope I pass! Time to hit the :study:

Good luck, not that you'll need it or anything, but couldn't hurt. ;)

Best advice I received for CompTIA tests is not to over-think the question. If there are two similar answers pick the "most right" one and move on. CompTIA sometimes words questions poorly but they're never out to "trick" you (as is the case with many of MS' convoluted three paragraph questions.)
