Is it possible to register/enroll for RHCSA exam without attending a course/class? I want to pass RHCSA completely by self study.
Is attending a course/class mandatory?

Can somebody guide me?

Having said that you should be aware that what RedHat expects you to know and what you actually do in your job are apt to diverge so the training does have some value. Be sure you look at what you're expected to known on their training site and do the self study based on what they want rather than just what you think would be important.

On the link I sent at the bottom is a button "Enroll Today". If you click on that it gives you the available dates. Be sure the dates you see are for a single day (e.g. Sep 28 through Sep 28) rather than for a week. When I do it I see several dates available.

RedHat sells the training AND the test as a single item which is RH200. Be sure you're selecting the right item which is EX200 for just the test.

To me, the certificate is of no value at all ... but the training materials (and perhaps, training classes occupied by real people with whom you can strike up a conversation ...) are quite valuable indeed.

The key difference between "a certification course" and "the documentation" is that certification-course designers (and BTW I have been one, albeit not in Linux circles ...) are trying to set up realistic scenarios. So, you can learn a lot, not only by studying the answers, but by studying the questions!

The classic notion of "a certificate" is that your goal is ("of course") "to earn the certificate." But, after the "tahhh dahhh!!" has faded away again into silence, it just might occur to you that the journey is the actual reward, and the certificate is an afterthought.

Hence, when you say, "can I take the exam without taking the training?" I find myself idly wondering if you might be leaving the most-important part of the process on the table ... even if you can "pass the exam" without it. Well, it's been more than thirty years since I had to worry about "passing anyone's exam," (ahem...) but I'm still learning, and I find that exam-preparation materials are a useful rich food. "Classroom training," which these days is usually done via teleconferencing, is a valuable thing, not only for the skills of a competent instructor but also for the potential interaction with other students. Whether you subsequently sit down to "take a test" is up to you.

It's a handy thing if your instructor will pay the bill, but you might buy it yourself (and write it off on taxes as 'professional development').

RedHat certifications in my view are somewhat more telling than others. In the testing RedHat makes you actually work on systems to accomplish tasks/solve problems rather than simply answer questions on a written test. I've seen many a person who failed the tests even after taking the training because they didn't "get it". Were someone able to prove to me they had passed the testing without taking the classes I'd think they knew what they were doing.

For other tests I've seen I wouldn't give two bits for the "certificate". In fact for years when I interviewed people I'd question them harder if their resumes (CVs) were long on "certification" but short on "experience" and often found they could easily be tripped up as their certificates were earned mainly by rote learning from the classes that preceded the tests.

The number one thing you need in an admin is the ability to think and in my opinion the way RedHat tests helps to weed out those who can't. The day I took the SA test there were at least 2 people that got stuck at the very first step so didn't pass.
