Grasshoppers to Gurus - Linux Education study and training.

This thread is something I really hope will grow with contributions from all over the world, much like the thread 'What's the coolest thing you've done with Linux?'

What I'd really like to see is input from the Linux community, professionals and students alike as well as potentials for either, what they use Linux for and what comprises being a Linux Guru? By forming a list of skills and courses either available or needed, global input can help focus exactly what defines a Linux guru and how someone can become one. The resultant list will act almost like an educational prospectus.

I think this is relevant as there is a huge Linux following, massive interest on levels from user, distro maintainers through to the highest levels of super-computing and analytical research. If people enjoy Linux specifically, rather than just computing, what skills are worth studying and becoming competent at and why (application), Linux fans can focus on becoming good at something they enjoy and care about. Whilst many of the forums posts are full of home-user install and configuration issues, Linux is first and foremost an industry tool. Getting into the industry requires skills. What should they be?

Ideology:

Stick within all boundaries native to Free Open Source Software Community (FOSS). Once you get into some languages, you could be coding for any OS. What is it to be a Linux guru or professional? A coder? A distro maintainer? A network admin? A cluster manager for A.I. or research?

Notes: What is available, what are the essential basics and what a Linux guru thinks should be the study outline. What to study and why. All my 'why's' are in italics below. Please comment on any of them, they are only my thoughts and will be updated.

Essential knowledge:

Linux+ Defines what Linux is and outlines how to use it.
A+ Computer hardware, how to use it, what it does.
BASH extensive understanding. The power of Linux, a language of it's own
PHP - basic Dynamic content for web, office or administration
MySQL - basic Establishing a database for use with many applications.

Languages:

Perl Powerful data manipulation and foundation for C
C/C++ The industry standard. Powerful language
Python Batteries included - a remarkably powerful dynamic programming language
PHP - advanced Sound knowledge of it's use
MySQL - advanced Sound knowledge of it's use

Other:

?

Hope this is enough to get a topic I am very interested in going. In time I'd like to concatenate a condensed list.
