Best Certification Programs

Hello,

I am looking for a good online certification program. Can anyone tell which one is the best and the widely respected?

I have not heard of any online certification program that has a wide following. My suggestion is that if your are simply looking at improving your knowledge you may find success through this route. If on the other hand you are looking to fatten your resume, you might want to choose another means of apporaching this goal.

Well, as with so many other things in life, it depends on a lot of factors. Is there a particular subject that interest you in the tech field (I assume that linux is one of them considering where you posted this message), but are you focused on linux as your only goal, or are you looking to learn more about linux as well as other subjects?

What is your current knowledge / skill level? How much experience do you have? How familiar are you with installing linux? Resolving networking problems? Building IP Chain firewalls? Back-ups and recoveries? Shell Scripting (and/or Perl/Python)? How is your hardware knowledge? Do you have experience with Samba? Do you prefer vi/emacs?

What do you want to do... do you want to get into system administration, networking, programing, security, something else all together?

If you can fill in some of the gaps I could make a few recommendations.

I can't recommend any on-line programs but if you are studying for Linux+ or LPI level 1 and are looking for help in preparing for the test I can recommend Boson. They are not some 'brain dump' provider, they have test simulators similar to Transcenders but are better in my opinion. They are a LOT less expensive than Transcenders also, usually $40 each (200+ questions).
