Start/Stop might include things like "service network stop" then "service network start" for the entire network stack or "ifdown eth0" then "ifup eth0" to stop and start the interface named eth0. You should also be aware of the "ip" command that can do many of the functions done by other commands such as netstat/ifconfig etc...

I suspected it was something along those lines, but it felt too simple.

I was not aware of the ip command.

thanks

I studied using Micheal Jangs (ISBN-13: 978-0072264548) book on RHEL5 and the documents on redhats website on RHEL6 (very helpful).http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/index.html Use the left side to get to the doc's on RHEL6. Hope this helps.

... I would add new Asghar Ghori's book to the mix:

Red HatŪ Certified Technician & Engineer (RHCT and RHCE) Training Guide and Administrator's Reference by Asghar Ghori

No offense, but I would expect you to know what they mean with "Network services" if you are trying to take the RHCE/RHCSA exams.
This is a rather simple objective.
Network services are programs (daemons in *nix terminology) that offer services through the network.

So you should be able to start different kind of services: xinetd and normal services and see if they are running alright. (service httpd status for example)
If I forgot something please correct me

What you can do it use the documents on RHEL6 from RedHat's site. This is what I did.
