From what I understand of it, it's Linux made to be as much like windows as possible for those who are just searching for an alternative to windows rather than an all-out learning experience. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

From the What is Lindows?" page on the Lindows homepage
LindowsOS (tm) is a full-featured operating system like Microsoft Windows XP or Apple Mac OSX. LindowsOS offers you the power, stability and cost-savings of Linux with the ease of a windows environment. In addition, LindowsOS features exclusive CNR technology that makes installing software on LindowsOS fast and easy -- simply find the software you want in the CNR Warehouse, then click and run it!

Moved to the Lindows forum - where one of the staff from Lindows may see it.

LindowsOS is 100% Linux and based on Debian. While it's powerful underneath, what makes LindowsOS unique is that it is VERY easy to use. At least as simple as Windows XP!
No tricky installations or configurations and applications are installed with just a mouse click.
I suggest you have a look at this site to learn more about Lindows and Linux.

what about softwares?
i found that .exe files cant be installed on Linux only RPM (binary code) can be installed
what about Lindows does it need also RPMs only to be installed (or the code of the program) or anyone can install the .exe S/Ws on it easily
eventually is it for free?
Thanks in advance

the absolutely easiest way to install software in lindows is through Click-N-Run.
a CNR membership costs $49 / year and includes all lindows releases.
there is also a time limited offer at choicepc.com, where you'll get CNR for the rest of your life and all Lindows versions ever being released for $100!
to learn more about Lindows and CNR I suggest you take a look at this tour

You may also want to read the reviews available on several Linux sites that put the spotlight not only on Lindows' usability but also on the security problems it has.
I mean, running as root as default? Haven't we learned anything from the security problems just about every Windows machine out there has?

Obviously you haven't even tried Lindows.
When you start Lindows for the first time, the first thing you see is a dialouge that encourages you to create users, explains why and gives you a user creation GUI.
It is the same as in Debian and Mandrake... I don't remember about the other dists but iirc no distro has *forced me* to create users yet.

And no distro SHOULD force you to make a normal user.
If you want to be stupid and not make a normal day-to-day user, then so be it. It's not the distro's fault.
In my opinion, LindowsOS is complete crap. I say this because you can get the same usability as something like Mandrake and RedHat (which both also suck a lot) and still NOT have to pay a dime. LindowsOS not only costs money but also charges you money for their software. And because of its usability, you don't get a choice on what WM you use (you are stuck using KDE, which is a slow and horribly, painfully inefficient WM), you get very slow performance due to all the "user friendliness" that their "custom" scripts running in the background allow, and its so insecure that even I, someone who NEVER hacks, could probably break it in 30 minutes.
I say skip any ideas at all having to do with LindowsOS. There are better, free, and better-performing alternatives out there that are made for the user friendly audience. Me, I am happy running Gentoo on my workstation

Lindows has the same underlieing security features as any Debian distribution. Its firewall has very conservative settings by default. If Lindows has an inherent security issue(s) so do all other Debian based distros. So please take your hostility elsewhere unless your going to come with facts and constructive criticism.

Maybe the target group of Gentoo is a little different than that of Lindows. If you just break it all down like you do you can say "scrap X", "you can do with better performance using command line", or "linux sucks being written in C - ASM could have made it alot more effective"

I've been a user of Lindows for a few weeks now. I'm a newbie to Linux - but not computers. I've always wanted to take a good stab at Linux but was put off for various reasons. The biggest one is I wanted a machine dedicated to Linux and just never had one to spare and also just what distro to get. I investigated Lindows about a year ago, among others, and then put the Linux idea on the back burner.
Then some guys at work and I were talking and it peeked my curiosity again. I ordered up a machine and threw Lindows on it. I got to tell ya for what I was looking for, a easy to use distro that was easy to install and - from what I could tell - a nice/knowledgeable support staff - I got just that.
This new machine and Lindows might just turn out as my primary computer. I'm that pleased with it and I'm having fun learning Linux. Heck - If I get sick of it I can throw Mandrake on the HD... I mean I think a lot of this negativity toward Lindows is sheer ignorance (the "root" thing is so tired - find a new zinger people, please.) and elitism really. If you don't like the distro. don't troll around a forum that you have distaste for.
(BTW this post isn't directed to any one particular user on here - I'm new to this site and I just couldn't help but notice the comments on a few threads here.)

i believe i touched on several other things if you follow that link. And please refrain from name calling and/or putdowns. It just shows your character instead of getting your point across.
I wouldn't call voicing your concern to induce change trolling. The first step in change is talk. Which is what we are all trying to do.
