what do users miss most with linspire.
a lot can be written this Q, but maybe ( in a future distro )
they will get it right.( i.e. complete linux & freedom )
at this point i'd say :
the greatest omission of linspire is
the lack of an ' UNINSTALL 'button
( probably positioned in the center of the screen, )

Well I think most people would miss the 90 dollars you gotta pay
these clowns for software/games/apps that are actually free!!

Why is it that every single reply to a question about Linspire has at least (and usually many more) reply which slams the distro/business model?
To all - if you have nothing useful to say to a genuine question, leave it alone and don't post. This is a friendly forum and genuine questions should always be answered properly.

well... i honestly think that Linspire-users are missing some ( or more ) of the Linux goodies. ( they pay for less...)
The way to express that feeling is maybe not very nice, but humor is still far better than using bad language.
And i agree, any forum on this site is there for serious discussion and info-exchange. (also thisone )
so...to give some serious input:
the first steps after any Linux-install are very basic:
1. add a user account for your own use.
2. compile a custom kernel, suited to your hardware-needs.
both actions are omitted in Linspire, you run it with a standard-kernel and as 'root' by default.
i think that's a disadvantage compared to other distro's.

Nothing stops you from compiling your own kernel and setting up users. In fact you are encouraged on your first Linspire boot, to create users.
I don't know what you've got against Linspire that makes you post FUD all the time in this forum?
I suspect you've found Michael Robertson in bed with your wife one day when you got home from work, or something like that...

Oky doke, calm down all. I am a reasonable, laid back kind of guy, but I must say that it is coming close to a point where I feel like closing every Linspire thread before they even get started.
Can we agree that there is a portion of the Linux community that dislikes the way Linspire have chosen to do things? Good.
Can we also agree that there is another portion of the community who do like the way they do things? Good.
Can we, then, also agree that yet another portion of the community could really care less - Linspire are big boys and if they have made a mistake they will find out when nothing is sold and that we are all happy with our respective distros? Good.
Finally, can we agree to move on, get on with things, smell the coffee and get some fresh air.
The whole "Linspire is betraying the community by charging for the distro, charging for downloads and trying to be like Windows" argument is now so old it isn't just stale, it's now dusty. They have chosen a way to do things, some people like that way. Move along, there's nothing to see.

no, I don't think it's ok. this forum is full of people who visit Linspires forum section just for flaming.
Calm down I have, and moved on... to other forums. In the future I will advice any Linspire user against going here.

how many linspire users I know? 5 in real life, and like 20-30 over internet. also I speak occasionally to some of the 225,457 registered linspire users at the official linspire forum. I have a feeling no other Linux forum has that many registered members...

Linspire so far no good
I have been given the task of coming up with a Linux Distro. to replace windows at the office in the next two years. I have been working with Red Hat, Suse, Xandros, and Linspire. The office purchased the Linspire Suite for me to test out and I have not been happy!
Installing Linspire was easy but in the box that Linspire Suite came in also had Lindows Office,
Lindows Plus, a antivirus and another item I cannot recall.
When installing the Office portion it puts me to the internet with the CNR but nothing gets downloaded to my system. So, I tried the Antivirus software which came with the Suite. Once again the dvd runs the cnr again, puts me on the internet but nothing get downloaded.
There was a place in which Linspire ask me to registar the software which I tried to do. It showed me where the code words are with a picture on the internet. My dvd disk has no code words on it.
In short, Linspire seems to make it to difficult to install anything new even if it has been purchased from Linspire.
Do not go with Linspire!!
I have had the best luck and performance, as far as a desktop linux version, from Xandros!
Very easy to install, get updates and maintain

Just log into your CNR account and all will be well. You access CNR by clicking on the green running man in your lower-right. For more help you can also access the audio tutorial to CNR - it's under the orange life-vest on your lower left.
Once you've logged in to CNR there's nothing that beats Linspire when it comes to simplicity of installing and running software.

When I click on the "running man" I am automatically logged in. My login name shows up at the top right of the screen. But I am placed at a Lindows PLUS advertisement. I see nowhere the word INSTALL just buy buttons. It if very frustrating. If I have the disk, and I do, why can I not just install these items from the disk. The only setup.sh script sends me to the place I explained above. They ask me to register the software...Why is not codes on the disk where they show on the internet??

I don't really get it since I've never used any Linspire CDs. I suggest you try asking this in the Linspire forum ( http://linspire.com/forum). I assure you you'll get help there.
