Some LindowsOS basics

I will answer some of the most basic questions here. If anyone has additional questions please post and I will get some answers for you.

BASIC LINDOWSOS QUESTIONS:

1. What is LindowsOS?

LindowsOS is a commercial Linux distribution made by Lindows.com. It is based on Debian Linux. The unique characteristic of LindowsOS is a software installation tool called "CNR (click and run)". This allows non-technical Linux users to browse through categories of software graphically and install them with the click of a button. You can see a screenshot of what CNR looks like here:

2. How much does LindowsOS cost?

LindowsOS costs $49.95. The CNR (click and run) warehouse is a seperate subscription service that also costs $49.95 per year. However, if you buy them both at the same time, you can get a "Value Bundle" from Lindows.com ($89.00) that includes BOTH the OS and a one year membership to the CNR warehouse. After that, you only have to pay $49.95 per year to renew your CNR warehouse membership. As long as you are a current member of the CNR warehouse -- you get free upgrades to software and the OS. If you decide not to renew your CNR warehouse membership after one year you still get to keep all the software that you downloaded while you were a member. These are yours to keep for life. However, in order to get updgrades to the software and the OS you need to subscribe to the CNR warehouse.

3. Can I try LindowsOS for free?

You cannot download LindowsOS for free from the Lindows.com web site. However, Lindows.com supports P2P (www.lindows.com/p2p). There is a version of LindowsOS called "LindowsLiive!" that you can find on most P2P networks. If you use BitTorrent you can go to www.suprnova.org and click on "Apps" > "Linux" and in the list you will see "LindowsLive!". This version of the OS runs completely from a CD-ROM and will not effect any current operating systems that you are running. This is a good way to try out LindowsOS to see if it is compatible with your hardware before you actually buy it. Another trial is offered at the Lindows.com web site. But, you have to register with a vaild credit card and buy the OS. There is a 15 day money back guarantee:

http://www.lindows.com/guarantee

If you are not completely satisfied, simply cancel your trial (see the form at the bottom of the guarantee page) and the cost of the purchase will be refunded, and you will not be charged for CNR. If you do not cancel your trial -- your credit card will be charged for the CNR membership.

You can find out more info about Lindows.com directly from the web site:

http://www.lindows.com

There are also community forums located here:

Please post any questions that you have about LindowsOS here on the LinuxQuestions.org forums and I will see that you get an answer.
